Understanding Carve-Out Coverage
For some time now, the HMO/Managed Care
Industry has embraced the concept of disease management for
chronic disease states such as asthma, diabetes, COPD, CHF
and others for reasons that are very clear:
- They found they can more effectively
provide continuity of care across a wide spectrum of complex
medical needs, which result in better clinical outcomes.
- Quality care is cost effective care,
and the economic outcomes achieved and
support it.

for 2006

Although
the impact of the season’s three big hurricanes
have dominated the news about the property & casualty
reinsurance insurance industry, the severe weather will
not have a major, direct
impact on the healthcare reinsurance industry.
As of late October, the three hurricanes were expected
to generate more than $30 billion in claims, prompting
many P&C insurance companies to declare losses for
the quarter and to announce rate increases for 2006.
A few large reinsurance carriers that offer both P&C
and health reinsurance have separate divisions and separate
reserve accounts for the business units. Other health
reinsurance carriers have no P&C business.
