Strategies to Manage Rising Costs of Specialty Drugs

SpecialtyRX Survival KitMapping a strategy to manage the rising cost of specialty drugs is the topic of the AHIP Evergreen Rx webinar to be conducted on March 27, 2008.  Ken Dowell, Evergreen Rx pharmacy practice leader, and Carol Ann Folkman, senior pharmacy consultant, will be discussing the current state of specialty pharmaceuticals, the significant pipeline and how plans can mitigate their potentially dramatic impact on the bottom line.

The Evergreen Rx presentation will provide health plans and other payors with the foundation from which to build their strategy to manage this impending and growing financial risk, specifically addressing:

  • Current status of the specialty drug marketplace:
    • Specialty costs that are rising at unprecedented levels
    • Continuing launch of new drugs
    • The increasing financial pressure from new medications that are substantially more expensive than existing therapies

  • Proven methods to prepare for increased costs, (e.g. managing in-house or outsourcing, covering on a retail or out-patient basis, use of clinical management programs)
